Mr. Tetsuya Kono of R'oti who won the Grand Prix in high-level Nagoya area. He participated from Iwata city, Shizuoka Prefecture, and demonstrated us that we "can", even without having a shop in the big city. He said that he always does Salon Work with the idea of REALITIVE. While we asked his aim and ideas of work in this area of competition, Mr. Kono, in his polite words, spoke about his enthusiamsm for Grand Prix Final.

Ⅰ.Circumstancers of debut

--How many times did you participate this time?

This is the second time.

--Do you remember what made you decide to participate first time?

I also have my shop in Iwata-city in Shizuoka, so I was wanting to challenge the contest outside the prefecture since before. At that time I went to see DA, and since the atmosphere of the venue was good, I decided to participate.

--What was the feeling of atmosphere?

The gallery was comfortably in a big space and I felt cool that the makeup of the venue was making full use of lighting and images. It was easy to see how they were competing, and I felt that the sense distance between the participants was wide and it was easy to perform.

--What was your aim to challenge the place where you usually didn’t participate the competition, Mr. Kono?

As a representative of the shop, I am cutting hair daily a small space, but if the area is different, what would be my level? It's not a ruler, but when we compare to others, we know our limit for the first time.

--According to the document, you have won Designer Award at the time of debut. Do you remember that time?

To be frank, I did it at the condition that I was a babe in the woods. I received the award, but I was feeling gloomy. About picture, in the end, Panel A was ok, but the creation of Panel B was the photo which doesn’t cordinate with Panel A, I just produced a good photo. When it comes to Model C, was it put in the middle of A and B, it couldnt be done so. Eventually, I thought, as for my feelings, I attached weakly with it. I involuntarily sent mail to the judges. Why was it me?

Ⅱ.Preparation for Area Competition

--You said that, you participated this Nagoya Area Competition, taking advantage of the gloomy experience of that time.

Yes. This time I made preparations thoroughly and went completely to aim at winning the first prize. It was the gathering of high-level beauticians, so I thought it would be good if I could win Judge Award, without aiming for first prize and failure.

--What kind of preparation did you make specifically?

I thought that the point in the hair which I wanted to show, and the sense of distance with model, were important, so I decided to shoot by myself without relying on professional photographers. That’s why, I practiced the camera. I was also aware of three storylines of A, B and C. I dare to shoot A and B under the same light condition, but if I can show the difference between real and creative by movement of hair, it might be the most ideal.

--Are you such type that you do everything by yourself except camera? Or, the type that you get cooperation from people around you?

As much as possible, I will choose the one to get cooperation from people around me. Honestly speaking, it is easy if I do it alone, but by involving staff, I may come to know that there is this kind of way to express.

--DA is going on with the theme of REALITIVE, so what do you think about it?

For me, REALITIVE is relatively everyday. I might not be relatively good at creativity and sharp style like Panel B. Originally, my salon work has a part where it leaves the footprint somewhere, so when I look back on it, I feel it was always REALITIVE.

--It is like you face your customers with REALITIVE idea on a daily basis, isn't it?

It is like that everyday.

Ⅲ.Commitment to the work

--I would like you to comment on the work of Area Grand Prix. At first, please start with A.

At the time I was making A, I was doing it while being aware of that day. I intended to bring curling style into C, so I made the design feel a little with the aroma of curl. Of course, I was going to change the texture and the color of curl. However, since there was possibility that the curl would not be recognized due to the shadow of light, how will the judges judge it? Will they feel it is nice? Will they feel it is not clear? I think it is not strange whichever way it ended. When I think so, I feel that I attacked very hard. (P)

--How about B?

Because I shot under natural light of same condition as A, I think there was that risk which is considered easily to be weak in creation. But, compared to A, in terms of how sharp it is, I think it was easy to understand. The key difference is the vividness of color and the taste of model. It had tatoo, or black nails, or tabacco. I made natural light show stronger, I mean I chose like that.

--How about REALITIVE of C?

After all, it is perm. I really wanted to stick to perm, not curling iron. If the length is long, it might be curled by iron, but I don't think to curl for short hair or bob. Like I want to dry it quickly and style it quickly. So it needs perm, so I made it based on daily life.

Ⅳ.Effort until Final

--Mr.Kono, in your own design characteristics, do you have anything that you like this kind of thing?

As I am a male, I am conscious that the lines and forms would not become too much mannish. It means, it might not become too sharp. In that point, female syalists have a very good balance. They have many points where I can refer to.

--To produce the characteristic, I thought that there might have been the idea to emphasize the mannish element more, but it is the opposite, isn't it?

Because woman is more genius, or man is doing properly on theory. The theory is easier. If you do on that rule, you will be able to see the answer naturally. The women are extremely good at applying on invisiable things like their lives and auras, so I keep in mind to see thoroughly the styles which the women make.

--Do you mean to take care of the sense?

The older we get, the more beautifully we are able to make, but we should destroy it. But it couldn't have been destroyed. The brain and the hands also. I dare to destory it. I think, when my cut will have to be this, it will be my end. It means, it gives priority to own career over what the world wants. I think, women don't do like that, and deal with it frexibly.

--How did you feel when you won Nagoya Area Grand Prix?

I was very happy, but that's not my end, because it was just the contest. When I thought about the people who couldn’t go to the final, I felt great responsibility. However, the judges said that, those who can enjoy the great responsibility, are the persons who can win Grand Prix, and now I'm thinking to make the good work as the representative of Nagoya Area.

--Do you have anything that you try to make effort for the remaining time?

I'm thinking that the contest get rid of all our normal daily life, which we are asked how we are usually facing our customers. Everyday is the curtain raise. How much can we put our own colors on our customers, in the order that they request us, so as to feel satisfied in the limited time? In some way, it is more difficult than the contest, and if we can do it one by one everyday, it will become the great training.

--It's exactly what REALITIVY should be, which MILBON wants to aim at. In the end, please tell about your enthusiasm to DA of The Year.

It's the special time, that’s why, don’t feel nervous. I'm not thinking that I can exert power more than I have, it is important to show properly my own true power on that day. I think, if I can show to be doing my best, it would become satisfactory competition for me.
