Winning the Semi Grand Prix in a year after joining the company. MAI from Bianca said during the contest, "I concentrated on making the model cute and didn't get nervous at all." Behind her courage lies her will to realize what she had always wanted to do. What did she do to get the prize? To reveal her efforts, I asked her roots from vocational school up to now.

Ⅰ.Hard work to get to the Area Competition

--What a pleasant surprise to win the Semi-Grand Prix in the first year of joining the company! Congratulations!

Thank you!

--After joining the company, when did you decide to participate in DA?

Even before joining, I had always loved joining creative events, such as contests, since high school. I also watched Mr. Iwata's (bianca) Grand Prix Final last year directly and loved his coolness in creating. At that time, I decided, "I want to participate!"

--Have you always been interested in creative works since high school?

Yes. I was a contest model when I was in high school. While I was doing creative work as a model, I started to be interested in becoming a hairdresser, who can also do creative works.

--High school! So early! Were you involved in creative work when you were in vocational school?

Actually, the vocational school I was attending did not specialize in creative works, so I tried finding a photo contest for vocational school students and applied for it. I made a work with the help of a friend who had a nice camera. After I was accepted to work at bianca, I accompanied my senior's shooting sessions ... anyway, I just tried everything that I could.

--So this achievement is also the result of your accumulated efforts, right?

Well, actually, unlike the contests I attended as a student, DA was way more difficult. From finding a model, deciding the hairstyle, colors, and costumes ... I just did many trials and errors. I could finally complete the style after I accompanied my senior's work shooting to find some inspirations and received a lot of technical advice. I really can't thank everyone enough for everything they've given me.

Ⅱ.About the work

--I am sure you faced many hardships in taking on the challenge when you only had limited experiences. What was the most challenging part?

Looking for a model was the one that took the most time. I did not decide what kind of work I was going to make at the beginning, but I thought of finding the best model and do the best work that matched that model.

--So you got some ideas on your work after you decided on the model. What was the order of your decision among the A, B, and C panels?

I decided in the order of A → B → C. Since A and B are different models, I used a style that can be used on each person. For Model A, I wanted to make something neutral, making use of the bright and pure feeling that the model had, so I made a natural finish. For B, since she is an active and cheerful model, I thought about making a work that shows the movement of hair and colorful hues.

--How about the C model?

I thought simply and just wanted to make everything easy to understand, so I decided to have A + B = C. Using the wolf style of Panel A as a base, I added some elements from B's

--Although the idea is simple, the power of expression is incredible! What are your strengths when creating your work?

I'm still searching for that "something" because you know, I'm still lacking in experience. However, I really love fashion, so I'm confident with my total design from fashion to hair.

Ⅲ.Becoming an area representative

--I think that you could win the Semi-Grand Prix because you based your work with healthy self-esteem. What was your feeling when you were chosen?

I was thrilled. At the same time, I was very grateful. I know I cannot "pay back" the owner who kindly set the environment for the contest, my senior who taught me a lot, and the staff members who supported me so much, but I am happy that I can share the happiness with them.

--In DA, you followed Mr. Iwata's steps. I think it was time for MAI to climb to the top of the Grand Prix Final, right?

I was actually shocked at myself, and I really wanted to do my best from the bottom of my heart. I have to improve all my techniques for the final. I definitely will do my best.

--Since this is your first year, you have less experience than the other contestants. What will you do to stand out so you can win the Grand Prix?

I think I will need a total balance that fully utilizes fashion, which is one of my strengths. I do not want to lose in that aspect!

Ⅳ.Try joining DA

--I am looking forward to seeing MAI's work at the venue. What did you learn from participating in the DA contest?

I learned a lot from my senior on how to improve my skills to prepare for the contest... I changed my point of view and learned how to "see". My senior advised me a lot from an objective point of view. His advice was based on the knowledge he gained from the contest itself, such as how to balance the whole body according to the model, the outline when viewed from a distance, and many others.

--An objective point of view, well, that means the point of view of the judges, right?

Right. The judges will judge me, not myself. I learned that it is meaningless to make something that I like without an objective point of view.

--Last but not least, please let me know what you feel on the Grand Prix Final.

Well, I only have the feeling that "I want to make my model be the cutest among all!" I want to learn and absorb a lot of techniques and knowledge before the contest and improve my skills. I would like to grow more and be a "hairdresser who never stops trying", like my senior.

--I am looking forward to see what kind of fresh breeze that MAI will bring in the Grand Prix Final!
