Once, he watched a video of a friend competing in DA on Instagram. His heart was moved by the those crying out of regret. That made Miyauchi from Favorite Garden decided "to participate in DA". His encounter with so many people connected him to DA and the Hiroshima Area Grand Prix.

Ⅰ.Efforts to area competition

--I heard that this is your first time to participate in DA. Can you tell us what made you apply for it?

I participated because I saw the stories of an Osaka stylist, Yuto Yoshida (Oto), on Instagram. Mr. Yoshida's and Ms. Honami's (Moriyama) participation in last year's DA final round was uploaded. I saw Ms. Honami, who was a support stylist at that time, cried when they failed the Of the Year round last year. I was moved by those two who challenged themselves seriously in DA.

--Were you influenced by the appearance of those two?

I was. Actually, I lived in Bangkok for about a year, and after returning to Japan, I became somehow uninterested in style creation. At that time, I felt encouraged when I saw Yoshida's Instagram. It made me want to to do it, like, I had to do it.

--What was the origin of the creation of your work?

It started with searching for a model. I didn't want to use the existing salon models for the A and C panels. That made me thinking about how to balance each of A, B, and C. After that, I asked Mr. Yoshida how to start working for DA. I was fascinated by Mr. Yoshida's appearance last year, and when I decided to participate, I told him, "I will win in the Hiroshima area so let's fight in the finals!"(Laughs)

--I heard that the work was photographed by the owner, Saito (Takashi).

Yes, Saito took all the photos that I submitted. As many people in the Hiroshima area took the pictures themselves, I thought that I must beef up the quality of my photos. In that way, I was able to concentrate on my hairstyling by leaving the photo shooting to Saito, a professional.

--How did you interpret the contest's theme, "Realitive"?

It should be something new, but it is not overdone. I thought that it was essential to be balanced. "It should be a design does not overwhelm people.

Ⅱ.About the work

--Please comment on your work.

Panel A shows a sophisticated, transparent bob style, with an emphasis on the model's personality. With a pure character and light skin, she is a very beautiful and transparent model. I made a point with a slightly unusual feature in the form of a sophisticated bob hairstyle, such as curling, inward-rolling, and others.

The B panel is interesting since it is a punk style that uses edges and combines something compelling yet conflicting.

--The colors are quite unique, right?

For B, I used a wig. I made the base black to give a natural-hair look and stretched out the colored part. I made it based on the style of Johnny Rotten of the punk band Sex Pistols. The color looks more casual than red, but I chose orange to give a solid punk ambiance. I designed the cut to be balanced like it was "self-cut".

--How did Panel C express "Realitive"?

I made the design based on my imagination on what would happen if she turns mischievous. It's like a rockabilly ducktail. Only making a ducktail hair was not enough, so I added things, like leaving some parts of the hair, for balance. I used orange and light yellow as the colors. The style expresses inner strength.

--Which part of your work do you think best represents your "personality"?

There were times when I made the style of my choice on the model, but now I'm focusing on how to make the model look more better by using techniques that fit her. In short, it is like a chameleon. I try not to have a fixed style.

Ⅲ.Becoming an area representative

--How did you feel when you won the Area Grand Prix?

After I finished the work, I immediately sent the picture of the finished model to Saito, because he could not be there. Then I was told that the one I made during the training was better... I felt so sad.

--You had a fever on that day, right?

That's right. Because of that, I felt kind of dizzy, and I also felt dragged because of what Saito said (laughs). However, I felt kind of strange confidence, saying, "I did what I had to do. It'll be fine." At least, I was confident that I could get the jury award.

--But the result was actually the Area Grand Prix!

I had never reached "the best" in any contests. So when my name was called at the Grand Prix, I felt "Wow!" ... you know, I was so surprised. Saito also kind of shouted, and made me somewhat distracted (laughs).

--That's right. Mr. Saito shouted.

I became a little embarrassed, then I started to calm down (laughs)

--Please tell me about the efforts that you'll take to get to the final.

To be honest, I think it's going to be difficult to win at my current level. So I think it's going to be about how much I can focus on DA during my salon work, days off, photo shootings, etc. I will heighten my senses and impressions by paying attention to everything that happens in my daily life. By doing so, I believe that I will be able to create a design that deserves to compete in the finals.

--Please let us know about your enthusiasm for the finals.

I will win. I will give my best, so I won't regret it. I do not want to compete by not offering my best, as I did before. Anyway, I know I can do it! I will do my best and to be better than Yoshida-kun and Honami-chan from Oto. After all, they are my rivals!

Ⅳ.Trying to join the DA

--Are there any aspects where DA's theme "Realitive" can be applied in your salon work?

I can apply it on customers who like new styles and leave it up to my creativity (omakase) to do their hair by cutting a new line, changing the texture of the perm, or others. Many of our customers pay much attention to fashion and hairstyle, and I think that the word "omakase" includes their wish of experiencing new things. I believe that having contest-level skills will make me able to respond to a such "Omakase" request.

--Please tell us your future goals as a stylist.

My goal is to win the JHA. Also, I want to become like Mr. Uemura of DADA CuBiC. Actually, I used to be someone who didn't want to do much (laughs). However, I changed after I learned how tough Mr. Uemura's is by attending the DADA Academy and studied in the owner's class there.

--So that's the secret of your enthusiastic spirit.

Well, I had my bad days. I think it is an important tool to not losing "myself as a hairdresser" after all those photo shootings and contests. One of the pleasures of living as a hairdresser is doing salon work, and another one is participating in contests. It's kind of like a seesaw; when I do bad in a contest, I could feel better by talking with customers at the salon and make them happy.

--So it means to be a hairdresser who can have fun in both ways, right?

Well, when the final is approaching, it gets really hard, but it also makes me grow (laughs)

--I'm looking forward to seeing your work that shows how much you grow. Thank you very much.
