Honami Moriyama from Oto participated as a supporting designer in the previous DA Grand Prix final. This time, she raised her hand and became the representative of the store to participate in the Osaka area tournament. Because of her great efforts, with the support of the shop owner and staff members, she won the intense competition gracefully. Honami also won the Jury Award, giving her the "double crown". We asked her to look back on the situation at that time and asked for her thoughts on the upcoming Grand Prix Final.

Ⅰ.About her previous participation as a supporting designer

--As a stylist, please tell us what made you participate in the first DA.

At that time, our owner, Yoshida, joined the competition, and he got to the Grand Prix Final. I learned by helping him carefully as a supporting designer, and I was moved by his bright appearance, which made me want to join the competition as a stylist.

--How did you feel when you received the results of Mr. Yoshida's Grand Prix Final??

I truly regretted it. I think that other people have also worked hard, but Yoshida did a charming work on that day and I was so moved when the model stood up from the chair. It was disappointing that the result said something else, though... So this time, I wanted payback.

--Did Mr. Yoshida say that he was not going to participate this time?

Well, no, I told him that not to join the competition because I was going to (laughs). Otherwise, the frame would have been too narrow. (P)

--That's right (laughs). Did you feel any differences between participating as a supporting designer and a stylist?

It was totally different. When I was a supporting designer, it was easy because I could say my opinion from a third-party point of view. Although it was good to do my work freely as a designer, the weight was different. I felt considerable pressure.

--Was the pressure due to carrying the shop's name?

Well, people around me were looking, so I knew that I should not do any old-fashion works. Yoshida told me that I didn't have to worry about carrying Oto's name, and probably he did not expect much from me (laughs).

--Was it impossible to view it as a third party?

It was impossible (laughs). However, there were parts that I really admire because I could not see them, and I enjoyed that kind of feeling.

Ⅱ.Looking back at the area competition

--I think that you have done a lot of work for the area competition, but are there anything in particular that you would like to share with us?

I practiced doing my work using wigs, but since I made about 7 different designs, it was challenging. However, the staff helped a lot by dyeing the wigs so I could practice the makeup.

--DA is implemented under the theme of Realitive. What does it mean to you?

The most important thing is to match the style with the model. I think that Realitive means to always include fashion in your life by being stylish and cute while walking down the street, for example.

--Now, we have a picture of the work that won the Grand Prix in Osaka area. Could you please explain each one from Panel A?

Since the model has always enjoyed the street fashion and various stylish things, I made the design in a bob-style, and it gives a street feeling in the blueish black color.

--How about Panel B?

Since I to make an influential female figure in B, I added a point red color on the front hair and expressed strength through its style. To bring out her femininity and create an elegant style, I added sparkling earrings and gold accessories. It had been a long time since Mr. Yoshida praised me.

--Well, Panel B was very "shiny" at the venue.

I kinda like this kind of thing (laughs).

--How about the Realitive aspects of Panel C?

I based it on the theme of 80's SF. Initially, I planned to color the hair pink, but now I decided it shouldn't have been pink when the dying process just started. I mean, pink is not bad, but I felt it didn't really match well with the person who looked at it. So, I thought I wanted a yellow... When I talked to the model, she said that she had wanted to dye it yellow from the beginning, so yeah, I decided to just go with it.

--Did you face any difficulties in making C?

Well, it was basically about how much coloring you were going to do. The theme was Realitive, so if you overdo it, you'll end up being creative instead.

Ⅲ.Thoughts on winning and standing on the podium

--With all kinds of pressure, what did you feel when you won the Osaka Area Grand Prix?

As a hairdresser, I have done many things, but most of the time I did things for myself. This time, I joined as Oto's member, and thanks to the staff and the owner Yoshida who supported me so much, I was able to experience many beautiful things. I am really grateful to them.

--Your crying was… well, impressive.

Yeah, I was crying (laughs). For a moment, I just felt relieved, and tears just started falling, but I felt my stomach tighten when I remember that I still have to face the Grand Prix Final.

--Were you confident in winning at that time?

No, not at all. So when I went up to the stage, I didn't know what to say. To be honest, I never thought that I could get a jury award.

--You're right. You also won the jury award. The one who selected you was kazu, the first DA of the year.

I really feel honored. Not only the works in the Osaka area on that day, but he had seen works in many different areas, and he chose my work among them! Well, to be honest, I want to ask why he chose my work.

--Do you remember what Mr. kazu said on stage?

I told him that I was going to cry. Then he said, "Just cry." (laughs)

Ⅳ.Looking ahead to the Grand Prix Final

--It will be several months until the Grand Prix Final. Have you made any plans on it?

I am planning to feed my eyes and refine my design.

--Feed your eyes?

You know, get to see beautiful things. Fashion, makeup, hairdresser's work, hairdos, photo collection... It can even be food or something. If you see something good, your eyes will be better. In every aspect of life, in creating, in daily life, in fashion, we do not know what to do because we do not see the good ones. I think that the best shortcut is to train my eyes.

--When you said good things, did you mean to take them from the world?

Well, I would say that it depends on what level in the world, but I think it is wrong to stay in the middle. If it's about fashion, you want to see a lot of high fashion. Of course, when buying, I also see the common ones, but I don't use it as a reference for "feeding my eyes". I think it can be interesting to look at the same thing or something that you like all the time, but it's not training. You must continue seeing the right things even if it feels tiring.

--DA is held under the theme of Realitive. Are there any parts in your salon work where you can connect to this theme?

Now, I feel confident to offer many suggestions to customers who like the aggressive design. Having an increased variation in design is an excellent benefit for hairdressers.

--What are the things that you want to do as a hairdresser?

I feel happy when our customers think that they can come to Oto for their hairstyles, fashion, and makeup, and be stylish. Since I like fashion, I want to get customers and people around to say that my work is fashionable.

--Lastly, since you will fight for the DA of the year in the final, can you show your enthusiasm?

I'm going to go pass what Yoshida achieved! I really respect him, and I know that I cannot win, but I will do my best with even greater enthusiasm.
